Early in your pregnancy, you can expect to visit your doctor or midwife every four to six weeks.

Visits will become more frequent as your pregnancy progresses.

During your first prenatal visit your doctor or midwife will ask you questions, such as:

• When did your last regular menstrual period start?
• When did you have your last Pap test?
• What is your blood type?
• Have you ever had a:
• miscarriage? 
• stillbirth?
• live birth?
• forcep, breech, or caesarean birth? 
• Do you and your partner lead a high risk lifestyle?
• Do you have any medical conditions that may affect pregnancy? 
• Are you taking any medications? 
• Are you using any herbal remedies? 
• Have you or your partner had or do you have any sexually transmitted infections? 
• Have you had German measles (Rubella)?
• Have you had chicken pox (Varicella)?
• Do you have any questions?

 Tests usually performed at all prenatal visits include:

• blood pressure and pulse
• urine test
• fetal heart rate
• measuring your abdomen to check your baby's growth
