ParticipACTION 150 Play List

Let’s Get Moving!

We’ve teamed up with ParticipAction to inspire British Columbians to spend more time being physically active. Physical activity is essential for people of all ages. Not only does it give you more energy to enjoy time with your family and friends, it helps you maintain a healthy weight, and can even sharpen your thinking at school and work. Read on to see what’s on the move these days.

ParticipACTION 150 Play List

Being physically active is part of being Canadian, and a vital part of everyday life. That’s why we are joining with ParticipACTION in celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017 as they invite all Canadians to identify and participate in 150 physical activities that define what it means to be Canadian.

The ParticipACTION 150 Play List is the ultimate list of 150 Canadian activities that define our nation, representing diversity of culture, people, places and national pride. Canadians have chosen the 150 physical activities across sport, recreation and daily life to be included on the list, from team sports such as hockey or wheelchair basketball to pickleball to snow shoveling.

Now they are bringing the ParticipACTION 150 Play List to life by challenging you, and all Canadians, to complete as many activities on the list as possible over the year. You can track your progress, find out how your efforts compare to those of other Canadians and earn the chance to win rewards along the way!

Why wait? Visit ParticipACTION 150 Play List today to get started.

Make Room For Play!

Did you know that Canadian kids are spending close to eight hours a day in front of television, video games and computer screens?

The Canadian Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines for Children and Youth recommend limiting kids’ screen time to two hours or less a day (and zero screen time for children under the age of two).

Make Room for Play gives you the tools to support and encourage kids to be as active as possible by turning virtual play into real, active play! The Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines for Children and Youth recommends at least 60 minutes of moderate-to vigorous-intensity physical activity every day. Physically active kids are generally healthier and happier so let’s get them moving! The benefits of increased physical activity include a good night’s sleep, improved academic performance at school and increased self-esteem.

UPnGO

Kids aren’t the only ones missing out on physical activity… Only 20% of Canadian adults are getting the recommended amount of physical activity. Let’s face it; our modern workplace culture isn’t helping this problem. More time is spent sitting at work than ever before, leading to a less active, less healthy, and less productive workforce.

That’s where UPnGo with ParticipACTION comes in! It’s a new and innovative way to encourage more physical activity during your workday.

UPnGO takes a holistic approach to increasing physical activity in the workplace. It is delivered through both mobile and web platforms and uses rewards to encourage and motivate participants. To create positive habits, the UPnGO program encourages employees to plan, promote and track their physical activity based on personalized goals. It helps participants to schedule movement into their day, improving both their quality of health and their quality of work.
